Lori asked:
What do you see your direct instruction in writing looking like?
I just attended a workshop called Basic Writing Skills with Judith Hochman.
She outlines a plan to teach expository writing to kids with explicit
instruction at the sentence level and paragraph level, and she advocates for
specific outlines to scaffold organization. I think this will be empowering
for kids. It is a departure from the Atwell/Calkins model of writing
instruction. Google Hochman to learn more.
