Something Upstairs by Avi...ghost story, but my kids LOVED it! My copy is all worn out because it's been loved so much.

My sixth graders last year really liked Thunder Cave. We read it as a whole class novel with a lot of accolades from parents of my boys saying that this is the first book that they had gotten into and liked, that they read in school.

good morning--
Several years ago I stumbled on two books that my sixth and seventh
grade struggling readers really enjoyed. Who stole the Wizard of
OZ--the story of a brother and sister team accused of stealing a first
edition of the novel--and Peppermints in the Parlor--a period piece
about an old house.
we had great fun with these two--reading level is probably 4th or 5th
grade, but they are wonderful stories.
