I have had an illustrated serial on my whiteboard,
one that changes daily, featuring Willie the Walrus(
7th grade boy author) and Frankito the Tomato (8th
grade girl) as they "protect" our room from invaders.
It is quite good and best of all, it is interactive
and totally student driven. Both characters offer lots
of opportunities for writing as Willie asks things
like, " What do you think Willie wants for Christmas?
or Frankito queries the group to submit good story
lines! This is with no prompting from me! It is
awesome I just wish I had kept them on chart paper as
they get erased and replaced each day. How can I use
this but still keep my hands out of it? I believe it
has so much potential. (By the way, it is so awesome
to see this rather quiet boy come out of his shell and
experience positive peer interaction through this
venue...He and the young lady are a talented duo. She
is the kind of student everyone should have ,...hard
worker, bright, kind and truly a leader...
