Yes, it has gone too far.  Try using some of the other readibility formulas, or see what publishers list.  One must consider the content as well as the lexile.  Kids can call the words without comprehension--they can also be matched with a book at their lexile and find it does not interest them -- or their interest level may not be at their 'lexile level"...Don't stand still for this--
