Tracy states.............Would suggesting a mix of reading levels for whole
group novels be appropriate maybe? That seems like the most reasonable
solution to me. Are you in a position politically in your district where you
could challenge a sweeping policy like this one?


Tracey,  right on!  Yes, this is what needs to be done. We cannot have kids
all reading the same novel for many reasons inclusive of reading levels.
What about differentiated instruction????

Also, teachers need to organize...just think about it, I know so many of us
think the same so why aren't we banding, going to board meetings, and
presenting what we know is right for kids...Why are we letting politicians
and data mongrels dictate how teacher now should teach?  There is no longer
room for creativity.  The young teachers I meet are so programmed and they
must use a required text, teach in a prescribed way, and are always under
the gun to present some new data in some new fangled way.
