I'll second that one. Rodman Philbrick is a wonderful writer. I have
read "Freak the Mighty" every year for the past five years, and my
students loved it. When a professor suggested The Last Book in the
Universe as another read aloud, I immediately ordered the book and read
it myself. I read it aloud to my students for the first time two years
ago and many of them liked this one even better. I think part of the
reason I (and my students) like Philbrick's books so much is that he
writes in the first person, and it makes you feel as if you are part of
the characters life.
