Another source I use for buying books for our media center is the NSTA list 
of outstanding books.   I have purchased several from the last few year's 
lists, and have been very pleased.

When I taught science, I read The Math Curse to the students, and had them 
write their own Science Curse.   I got some fantastic stories!   (And I still 
have some of them) Then Scieszka and Smith wrote their own Science Curse.
