Hi!
In my case, it's a novel I read aloud to the class which connects to one
or more of the units we are doing. We have a 90-minute block for
Humanities, and I read for probably 20-25 minutes out of that time (the
first activity of the period). They jump in whenever they have questions,
comments, predictions, inferences, etc. - some days they mostly listen,
some days there are long and involved discussions. I have a large
classroom, and I'll let them spread out, get comfortable, lie down even -
as long as they are paying attention. Several kids have told me on several
occasions it's their favourite part of the day.
