I haven't read this year's nominees  yet, but usually the California 
Young Readers Medal Books are outstanding. 
They are categorized by age group.    Some past winners include: 
Flipped, Touching Spirit Bear, Because of Winn Dixie, Babe and I, Among 
the Hidden.
