[LIT] moments of pride

Hi!

So my own "moment of pride..." and may I say, with this group of kids,
it's pretty much a daily occurrence. They are truly incredible. Anyway...

Last December, I found a short reading passage on epistemophobia for their
"Should we fear or should we learn more about the unknown - past, present,
and future?" unit. They were quick to make connections between how a fear
of knowledge could be induced, and how any fear can arise. They brought up
the legitimately positive aspects of fear as a biological survival
mechanism, and discussed what distinguishes a healthy fear from a phobia.
Finally, as they thought about the role of emotion in learning (whether or
not what you're learning is to be afraid), they got into a great
discussion on gender and emotion and relational styles. The term
"epistemophobia" made it into several of their literary analysis essays
and/or research papers. I have a feeling, whenever I might retire, that
this class will be one of my all-time favourite moments ever.
