Hi!
Before We Were Free, Julia Alvarez (last days of Trujillo in the
Dominican
Republic)
The Endless Steppe, Esther Hautzig (true story; exile to Siberia
during
World War II)
A Step From Heaven, An Na (emigrating from Korea to the U.S.)
Of course, most young adult literature deals with change of one sort
or
another. "A Mango-Shaped Space" by Wendy Mass, for example, is a coming
of
age novel in which a catalyzing event is the diagnosis of synesthesia
in
Mia, the protagonist, which entirely changes how she sees herself.
Take care,
Bill Ivey
