I found that my kiddos loved blogs too.   They were so much more willing to 
go indepth than when they needed to talk (they seemed to keep on task far 
better too).   Are you able to keep a blog in house (or on a school based server)?  
 Apparently the Macs we have in our computer lab at school are supposed to be 
able to do this (not that my tech specialist has mentioned it or offered to 
set anything up - he just fussed that I was using a web-based blog).   I made 
my blog administratively filtered and I was the administrator.   That satisfied 
my principal, although if I can figure out how to set one up on our school 
server, I will most certainly do that.
