Mary,
No.  It's purely to drive instruction.  I am looking for several things:
     1.  Are they understanding the book?  Is it a just right book?  If not,
what do I need to do to help?
     2.  Are they understanding/applying the strategy?  Do I need to pull a
small group to revisit anything?
     3.  Are they having difficulty responding to the text in writing or
keeping up with notes?
     4.  What, in general, is the next step in the process?  What do they
need help with?

Their grades come from their notes, responses, and self-evaluation against
the standards and proceedures that we've learned.  Later in the year
literature studies and webquests join the list.
