I hear ya Pam! Isn't it tiresome that this still comes
up? We had a great meeting with the Maine Humanities
Council. One of the topics was about this issue. I do
not allow my kids to use this language in our
classroom but I did not feel I was being effective
communicating the reason. One of the methods they
suggested is working better than I anticipated. When
the offending word comes out, I stop quick and say "20
second re-state." What do you really want to say? They
have 20 seconds to correct their comment. I recently
heard one of the other kids remind their peer, and
thankfully not with sarcasm, to give a 20 second re-state!
