Hey Kathy and others,

In education I have found a happy medium generally
exists somewhere in the middle. I use both discussion
and guided discussion in book talking. I usually begin
the process of a traditional lit circle with role
sheets to help introduce the concepts of book sharing.
Eventually some students need them less and benefit
from good solid discussion. However, some kids still
need the support of a guided discussion. In fact, I
have kids that enjoy utilizing the various roles. In
many ways, this is simply a way to differentiate with
readers. I have found a varied approach seems to work
well with my multi-agers!
