[LIT] Writing curriculum

I found it very hard this year, my first, to maintain a
writing curriculum, i.e. lessons that build upon each other in a
logical fashion. I felt like most of my lessons were random and
unconnected.

What has worked well for me in the past is to teach through genre. It's a natural way to spiral concepts that need to be taught (and taught and taught again...). To get around the stifling aspect of only being able to write in that one genre, my kids have a "choice" piece due every so often (depends on the group...this year it was every two weeks). So at any given time they are working on two or three pieces.
