How about:
It is important to be popular fir a Middle School student

Or

It does not matter if you are popular in Middle School?

I like the idea of having students generate ideas for topics!

Why is popularity so important to middle schoolers? ( which doesn't
seem to lend it self to being a persuasive prompt) Perhaps, " Do you
believe popularity is important to middle schoolers?"  What do you
think? Any suggestions?
