My 8th graders, both boys and girls, who have read this book have really liked it. They seemed to bring away the message that guns are dangerous. Another great, but very different, book with a message in this realm is The Rifle by Gary Paulsen.

Has anyone read Give a Boy a Gun ? I'm interested in reading this with 9th graders, low reading level, but I'm concerned about the dangerous messages about gun violence I may be passing along. How has this book been received by students?

Primarily Latino and African American-- basic/proficient in language arts. Many are interested in Ann Schrafe type drama even though the books are to low for them reading wise.
