several books will be chosen for 'publication' and i am making
arrangements
to visit the local elementary school where they will be able to read
their
books to the students in the appropriate grade levels. any
suggestions,
comments, ideas? i need to focus on this as we struggle through the
testing so
it is ready to go on march 14th.

I think 4th quarter in FL is probably the most engaging quarter of all
for our students!
One of the teachers who I bounce ideas around with is in the process of
creating student podcasts. They are working with a children's picture
book (each student has a different book) and are mastering the art of
reading fluently and with intonation and feeling. Once they've done
that they are going to record themselves reading and put still pics of
the book pages (or I think that's what they are doing), might be
straight audio. The class is then going to gift a Kindergarten class
(at the school across our campus) with the podcasts and the picture
books. He is hoping to arrange a walking field trip to let the best 20
students actually go and guest read to the kinders. He says he's never
seen his kids so excited. Did I mention that these are 7-8th graders
who are reading at a 2nd & 3rd grade level? No easy kids to get excited.

An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how
much you know. It's being able to differentiate between what you do
know and what you don't.
