This article makes the case that starting school later would result in
better rested, safer, healthier teenagers without the negative results
often predicted. What do you all think? When do you start, and do you see
a major difference between your students at the start of the day and later
on?
Our school currently starts the day at 7:55. I haven't had an 8:00 class
in some time, but remember my students seemed much less alert than they
did at 9:35, that discussions seemed more lively, and that they seemed to
be thinking in greater depth. Anecdotal, I know, but perhaps helpful. I
feel as though an 8:30 or even 9:00 start wouldn't be the worst thing in
the world.
