"Does anyone have a reader's workshop format in their classroom? I am
looking to start this with my struggling readers. I was wondering if
anyone has any tips??? I have read Nancy Atwell's book In the Middle
but I was hoping to get some feedback from teachers who actually use
it."
Thanks much!

Nicole,
I am doing this right now as an experiment with my reading class to see
if they like it. It came about when one of the boys was reading and
tried to get into character. We are reading Because of Winn-Dixie, and
each member of the class (there are 2 boys and 5 girls) has a part, or
multiple parts since there are more boy parts than boys, plus someone is
always the narrator. They love it because they use Florida accents, or
what they think Florida accents sound like) and remind each other if
they lose their place. It is so funny, cute, and much more meaningful
than any reading we've done this year. (All of my students have reading
disabilities; by the way, so I'm sure your struggling readers would
enjoy it too).
