Hi Jan,
Here's my recommended reading list for middle school:
In the Middle by Nancie Atwell
Deeper Reading by Kelly Gallagher
Teaching Adolescent Writers by Kelly Gallagher
Teaching Reading to Black Adolescent Males by Alfred Tatem
Making the Match by Teri Lesesne
Naked Reading by Teri Lesesne
Just to name a few ... I am certain that others out there have more to add!!

Subject: [LIT] Best Resources for New Middle School Teacher?
Hello! I'm certified for grades 1-6 in the State of FL and am hoping to add
the Middle Grades English subject area this summer. My goal is to teach at
the middle school level. I'm a firm believer in an integrated approach to
reading and writing instruction, so this list looked like the right place
for me.
My experience is in elementary school. Are there any "must reads" that
you would recommend to someone who is moving from elementary to middle?
I ordered the following books last night:
What Every Middle School Teacher Should Know
Teaching English in Middle and Secondary Schools
Teaching Reading in Middle School
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!
Sincerely,
Jan Zeiger
