Real Friends

REAL FRIENDS

Is a real friend the one who
cares about you
who says good things
about you
Is a real friend the one
who stays by your side
Through thick and thin now
That’s what you call
Real friends

Mexico

Mexico,
Like That, there Is not Another,
My Beautiful Country,
My Beautiful Land,
With Many Traditions,
And No Matter How Many There Are,
That Is My Country.

With The Toltec,
Aztec,
And Mayan Traditions,
With The Old Traditions,
And With All The Uniforms.

With The Delicious Food,
There, You Are Welcome,
With Old Personages,
That Continue In Our Minds.

A Beautiful Country,
With My Beautiful Land,
My Pretty one,
Yucatan.

Con Las Viejas Tradiciones,
Y Con Muchos Uniformes.

Con La Deliciosa Comida,
Alla Te Dan La Bienvenida,
Con Viejos Personajes,
Que Continuan En Nuestras Mentes.

Una Hermosa Patria,
Con Mi Hermosa Tierra,
Mi Lindo

Broken

I found my love in a nearby wood.
She spoke to me and yet I should.
Get nearby her, because I know nothing of her,
And she knows nothing of me.

We meet regularly by this tall tree,
We rolled in the leaves in autumn,
We sang with the birds,
We drew a heart with our names in it,
And she still knows nothing of me.

The next day I came to this same tree,
I saw nothing but footsteps leading to the north,
Where I cannot go
I am broken…

The Eagles

Its wide wings adore me
The Sun reflects its shadow
It is beautiful to see it soaring that high
I would like to fly someday with these giants
Seeing the sky
Passing by
Me swiftly
Flying high
Being weightless and letting troubles pass me by
Then again-
I’d rather like to stay on the ground;
Where I would stay with family that could protect me
Instead of being in the wild.

Who Loves a Girl Like Her?

Who Loves a Girl Like Her?

Who loves a girl with shoulder length hair?

Who loves a girl with pretty shaped eyes?

Who loves a brown skin girl with pretty lips?

Who loves a girl with a kind of big tummy?

Who loves a girl that has big thighs?

Who loves a girl with pretty brown legs?

Who loves a girl that can dance?

Who loves a girl that is sweet and just loves to have fun

But really can you tell me this

Who really loves a girl with a skin disease?

MISCELLANEOUS POEMS, Part 1

LOVE

Love can sometimes be true
Love can be used for just saying with no reason why
Love can be a word that just get passed around like your English book.
When love hurt it’s not a funny feeling.
You should never love someone if they don’t love you back.
Love can make u sad, mad, glad or even brag.
Love can sometimes change who u are.
You should never hurt the one you love.
Just think of them being that one shooting star

School Bus

School Bus
School Bus
So big and round
Yellow and black
All year round
Long ones
Short ones
Strong and sturdy
Sometimes you’re clean
And sometimes you’re dirty
School Bus.

--Julian

School Bus

School bus
School bus
Clean or dirty
Just making loud noise
Just loud an nerdy.

School bus
School bus
Good or bad
School bus
School bus
You make me so glad.

While picking me up from here to there,
Sometime I care why are you ever there
Then I begin to notice...
Do you really care?

And while you are worrying about me and you,
I wonder why you do what you do.

School Bus
A big yellow school bus
Coming down my street.
It comes to a stop with its loud brakes.
It blows it horn for me to come out.
I get on the bus and the way to school
I go.

The School Bus

School buses are passing
School buses are loud
Kids are yelling like chickens going to slaughter house
Every time the bus comes,
I see yellow and orange bright lights flashing from my bedroom window

But wait I’m not done getting dressed yet!
My mom is yelling…you better not miss the bus!!!

The Most Beautiful Thing

The most beautiful thing
I’ve ever seen
Was my new born niece,
With her big brown eyes
Looking at me.

The Prayer of the Puppy

Dear God
I am a sweet and innocent puppy
Can I go to a safe and cozy place?
Can I leave this shelter?
The only thing I wanted to do is get out of this shelter form all of these cruel animals.
But, I guess today is not the day, Dear God.
Can I have this one life changing moment?
Please, I am begging.

Amen

“THE PRAYER OF A DOG’S DREAM”

Dear God,

I need a place
where I can be loved and cared for.

I see the people across the street
In their big yellow suits
And their big red truck.

I’m so happy
I’m wagging my
Polka dotted tail right now.

I think a man sees me.
I’m going to go and meet him
Right now.
I think he’s smiling.

Well, God.
Wish me luck.
Here I go!

The Prayer of the Little Kitten

Dear God,
Help me as I walk
Through this big world,
Watch over me when I’m
Trying to find my way
Help me look for a home
Where I’m wanted
When I sleep,
Let me lay in peace
When its time for me to go
Let me be remembered as
The little kitten
Amen.

Love vs Gum

LOVE VS GUM

Love is like a piece of gum
You chew and it taste good
But at the end it gets old
And nasty and and
The flavor has just worn off
So take love like a piece of gum
Once your love has come into your life
He will break your heart.
Then you will feel like a piece
Of gum with no flavor

PRAYERS OF THE ANIMALS

THE PRAYER OF A CAT

Dear Lord
I am a nice loving cat.
That likes to sit in my owners lap.
But when I sneak outside lord.

The Prayer Of The Horse

Dear Lord,
Give me the strength I need
To run this race

I’m starved all the time
Because I don’t win races,
My skin is rough
And I need a bath,
Lord please help me

Amen

“The Prayer Of A Dog”

Dear God,
I Know You’re Good,
I Know You Hear Me,
And You Understand Me.

I Want Somebody To Love Me,
And Someone Who Take Care Of Me,
That Person Will Be From You,
And That Person Will Be Like You.

I Don’t Want Be Alone,
I Want Be Happy In A Home,
I Just Want To Be Happy,
Happy With A Family.

Thanks For Your Time God,
Thanks For Being Good,
Thanks For The Person,
That Will Come Soon.

DEFINITION POEMS

The Literati 1A undertook the challenge to write a definition poem for an abstract idea or concept. Each definition line was expected to be a metaphor or simile. What do you think? Did the writers capture the concept or idea? Is this what each word defined suggests to you? Remember, these are connotative definitions, not denotative definitions. You'll find the latter in a dictionary!

================================================================================
Determination

Determination is a river
That never stops flowing.
Determination is a rock
That never moves.
Determination is a tree
That will sometimes be blown
By heavy winds, and struck
By lightening in severe storms,
But it will never move.
Determination is a source
That keeps you motivated
To reach that certain goal.
--Charleston

One-Sentence Poems

The students were challenged to write one-sentence poems that captured an image. The first two lines and the first line of the third line were the same in each poem--that made the pattern. What finishes the pattern is different in each poem. These are easy to write and can be fun--you try it! Maybe yours will be more vivid and descriptive!

Here are the students' poems so far--more will be posted later.

About Our Class

Ms. Maddox's Literati 1AB is an eighth grade English class of 27 students in Little Rock, Arkansas, including seven students who also speak Spanish. We will probably pu blish some poems in Spanish. Most of us are 13 or 14 years old. Ms. Maddox has been pleasantly surprised to find out that we memorize poems so easily and that we are all pretty good poets! We hope you like our poems and are looking forward to reading poems by other middle school students. Please comment on our poems--We know that great poems require great audiences, and we think you will be our great audience. Ms. Maddox has also tried to convince us that great authors are not afraid to revise, and your comments can help us make our poems even more effective.
