The Beginning of the Day
The alarm clock buzzes in my ear,
screaming next to my bed.
Maybe
I hear blaring music
Though sometimes I wake
To the sound of the TV show,
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
Waking up to the annoying red light
The blurry clock that said 5:00 a.m.
In the darkness of my room
with the light from the windows
Usually I see my cat
A big black cat at the end of my bed.
Or
The small kitten
That bit my nose
my cat pawing at my face
jumping straight at me
I heard my dog
Bella
Barking at the new day
tied outside and cuddled in a blanket
Dressing
Unheated air
freezing after hot shower water
the cold running through me
But finally I feel the warm air
lingering
in my newly heated room
Some days I taste Fruit-Loops or I enjoy
French toast with a waterfall of syrup
The bus is late
But finally I see it
big and yellow
rumbling its way down the road.
