Creating Your “About Our Classroom” Page

In this message we’ll go over the steps for publishing your About Our Classroom Page. I’m sending this message in HTML format so that I can better organize and highlight important items. If your email software doesn’t display this content properly, please let me know so I can send it in another format.

We had a project goal to have this information up this week so hopefully you can find the time to post your message before Friday. After this week, classrooms will post poetry in the next month as it fits into their schedules. I know some of you will be on spring break, so don’t feel obligated to act on this until your back in the classroom.

Drafting Your Content
I always advise bloggers to create and save their content in Word or some other word processing program. There may be times with there’s a glitch in the blog software or our database. Having ALL of your blog content on a school computer or server is a good backup idea. So if you haven’t done this already, please work with your students to draft an “About Our Classroom” message.

Please use a minimum of text formatting. Bloggers generally use the default font for all of their content. You won’t find very many blogs with huge fonts and wild font colors and backgrounds. Research shows black text on white background is easiest to read and it is my suggestion that you and your students will use with this standard.

Creating Your About Page
The About page is already a part of your blog. We will simply go to the About page and replace the default information with content that you and your students have prepared.

  • Login to your blog.
  • Click on Manage and select Pages (in the area below Manage).
  • Find the About page and in the Action area select Edit.
  • Delete the text that’s there and then copy and paste your text.
  • Click on Save to publish to your blog.
  • If you need to edit the page just go through the above process again.
***Note: This process is the same process that is used for posting poems on your blog.

Adding Images
Photos are optional so don’t feel obligated to post an image. Images must be uploaded before they can be inserted into your blog. You are limited to one photo per blog/page entry.

When in edit mode scroll down the page to find the Upload area.

  • Browse to find an image on your computer.
  • Provide any additional information about the image.
  • Click Upload to move the image onto the server for use in your blog.

About Images

  • A good size for images is 240px wide.
  • Images should be about 50k in size. Many new cameras take photos that may be 1.5MB in size (30 times larger than what you need for the web).
  • Please be aware that you have a file size limit so be careful on uploads.
