Mrs. Aitken's Poets in Progress

George Bonner Middle School is located in Mill Bay on the southeast shore of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, about 26 miles north of Victoria, the provincial capital. Approximately 540 students are enrolled in grades seven and eight; most being bussed to school each day. Bordered on three sides by farmland our school is approximately 1 mile from the bay. George Bonner is undergoing a 15 million dollar renovation which will be completed this September. During this renovation year the grade seven students moved to a nearby vacant elementary school while our grade eights were housed in "portable city" back of the renovation site. Come September 2006 all grade six, seven and eight students in the area, approximately 750, will attend the "new" George Bonner Middle School. George Bonner is an exemplary middle school incorporating teaming, flexible block scheduling, exploratories for all students and daily PE. It has been designed to be a “bridge” for transition from the elementary to high school. Two classes of students form a team with two main teachers; one for science, math, p.e and the other for social studies and English. Our team of "poets in progress" consists of 54 students; 34 boys and 20 girls who look forward to sharing their voices and hearing yours.

Boom, Clash, Bang
As my sister ran down the hall and sang
Driving to the hospital as fast as we could
Blood bleeding fast that could fill a pool
Finally we were there without getting too much blood everywhere
She got in right away
She had drugs so she wouldn’t feel a thing
She had 50 stiches
And after the doctors where done I was told by my sis I have 20 eyes, 5 mouths, 8 noses, and 3 heads!!!
She almost fell out of her bed quite a few times
After we left we went to Wendys and got Frostys except my sis who stayed quiet the WHOLE ride and never got anything.

As the playground sits behind our school,
at lunch the kids act like they rule.
The playground at our school is actully quite old,
and on a winter day is really cold.
We have all seen this playground bare,
only because we cant be there,
although we get older
we still see that big boulder
not wanting to play on there for only one reason.
We think it’s childish but we are only actully
children no matter how we try not to be
we should play as long as we can.

Hatred,
As I sit on the rock overlooking the waterfront,
My mind becoming black,
rushing sewage flows by the rock where I rest,
the water,
Lifeless,
seems to take its time, no hurry,
My long drooping hair rests among my crossed arms,
all alone,
or am I?
memories racing through my dense mind,
One by one they vanish,
Rising to my beaten up legs,
I spread my arms out like the hawk,
Eyes shut as if life has ended,
but it has,
dropping into the muck filled water I refuse to move,
laying motionless,
no breath comes to my chapped mouth,
the beating,
it stops

Rotting thieves of grand bravery,
sail on a ship in the Caribbean Sea.
They loot, they plunder, they comandeer,
you hardly see them shed a tear.
With short, sharp cutlasses they bear,
and also have dirty looking hair.
The civilized chase them every day,
but it is only to their dismay.
A ship of a pirate is hardly clean,
Proving that most pirates are quite mean.
They carry a pistol in their hand,
slaying most people who live on land.
A black spot is not a good thing,
and really, really doesn’t make you sing.
A pirates sign is a jolly roger,
a skull and crossbones of freakish power.
it’s a pirate’s life for me,
no it isn’t but I wish it would be!

When im sad I feel blue also depressed and stressed eventually I get over it but it still hurts to be blue. My friends cheer me up but still it hurts to be blue. Easter

Twas easter day the month was june,
the easter bunny left dried prunes.
The bees did yap the flowers did wilt,
all the dogs were knitting a holiday quilt
There was an easter egg hunt,
but the children sat all dull and blunt.
The bunnies did fly the cats did bark,
the chickens were hidden all over the park
The easter cubes were filled with paste,
all of the parents had no haste.
The easter bunny was filled wth no cheer.
all the cocoa was crying with fear
all the flowers were growing down
all the trees were wearing a frown.
Everything was mad, guilty and bad,
nothing was happy or joyous, not a tad.

Sorrow was the only issue
When i saw you i knew would miss you
