Poems From C. L.

Clerihew

Everyone has heard of Shawn White,

To win the Olympics he put up a fight!

You’ll see him flying in the air,

With everyone giving him a long stare

Everyone knows Shaquille O’Neal,

He dunks the ball and knows how to steal!

He’s a big, macho man,

A lot of people know him as their number one fan!

Everyone has heard of Dr. Seuss,

When he writes his rhymes he’s very loose!

All of his books are very funny,

They must have made him a lot of money

Everyone has heard of Ne-Yo,

When he sings he’s very mellow!

His song So Sick is about his old girl friend,

He sings about the things that have been happening to him since the end!

Those Shoes Need To Come Out Of That Closet

Whose shoes these are I think I know

But why are they stuck in the closet, though;

No one will be able to see them here

They’re stuck far back in the closet and so low.

My closet must think it queer

To stop and look at these shoes once a year

It’s thinking how long does it take

To glance at a pair of shoes that is always here

They wish they were out of the closet being worn at the lake

They want to be covered in sand and given a shake

Some how I need to let these shoes escape, they are acting like sheep

Looking at them for a long time gives me an ache

When they’re stuck in the closest all they do is weep

Hoping everyday that I might go grab them for keep

They want me to think of them day, night, and even when I sleep

They want me to think of them day, night, and even when I sleep

Frozen Poem

Trees like a spider web

Coats drooping down

A vanilla sundae

Caves leading us through to heaven

Quiet road

Empty

No one to be found

History Poem

My Family’s Cars
Light-green Volvo station wagon
Gray speckled car-seats took up the back row
Maroon Nisan Maxima
High spoiler made it a cool car-even though it smelled like mashed peas
Green Ford Mini-Van
The scent of sweaty, old soccer cleats and perfume made that car invade nostrils with bad odor
Turquoise Mazda MPV
Presented the stench of moldy urine
Silver Acura TL
Speeds down roads like a NASCAR race-car
Black Acura MDX
Big, clean, SUV that can fit in (comfortably) a pro sumo wrestler

The Peaceful Pond

Whose lake this is I think I know
He is in his bed, though
He won’t see me stopping here
To invade stillness of his pond so

Those little frogs must think it queer
To come without the old man near
In the garden flowers I take
The brightest morning of the year

Frogs ribbit, ribbit at the lake
To ask if there is some mistake
The only other sound’s the leap
That frogs plop into water make

The water is lovely, clear and deep
But I have promises to keep
The water was still, not a peep
The water is still, not a peep

Beach

The sea rushes up the shore
Then runs back
The waves fizz and bubble and jump
The seagulls screech and chat
Towels cover the scorching sand that sleeps all day long
Shells glisten and gleam in the sunlight; flaunting their outer-beauty
Little children drop ice-cream cones to vanish in the sun's burning rays
The sun sends golden light to the earth below

Three Poems by A. M

HERE I AM

Here I am

Late again

But things are getting better

Everyday I stand in the pouring rain

Everyday I'm on my own

My hair's not great even when it is brushed

My eyes water when I see you

Here I am

A crazy girl in this whacked up place

Live with it

Nothing is going to stop me from shining now

Cause I'm one of a kind

I have run a marathon in the dark where no one saw

Don’t give me credit no one does

Don’t feel bad for me

Even on the cloudiest days I’ve got sunshine all around

Cause I am the only wild fun one in this weird, weird place

Or at least it seems

Come on shoot me a smile

Have some fun

Stay a while

Things are getting better

Ya better everyday

Here I am shining brighter

Brighter today then yesterday

Brighter tomorrow then today

Personification poem

The dawn guides us to a new day of laughter and love

As the sun comes up, it joyfully smiles down at us

The wind runs to the sea and sees her waves dancing to the beat of nature

The mountains near by hum in a melodic low note

Up above them the clouds tell a story through their pictures

The grass watches as they shake in laughter

Some trees rock back and forth

Cradling the birds in their long skinny arms

Finally, the birds awaken and add to the melody by singing in perfect harmony

Alexandra m

They Will Soon Know

Am I a witch?

They will soon know

Never I'll wished anyone

Anger

Hatred

Clashed together

Forced to run

Fugitive

Sparkling curses

Steal striking flint

Announced me a witch

Eyes gleaming

Scheming malice

Madness twisting

Counterfeit

“What the blind will not see”

Her words came to me

Wise women

Wisdom is sorrow

Same fate awaits me

Voices ringing load

Knocking on the door

Searching rooms

Escape

Antonym Poem

What is the opposite of clean?
An un-bathed teen

School Lockers
Can be quite a shocker

Don’t look under the bed!
It will surely spin your head

What is the opposite of cute?
A mouse in a suit

The wart on a witch’s nose
Will make you so scared you’ll have to cool down with a hose

What is the opposite of dark?
The firework’s spark

The moon
In early afternoon

Playing in the blazing sun
Having a lot of fun

What is the opposite of color?
Something that looks much duller

A 40’s black and white movie
Isn’t all that groovy

Why I didn’t clean my room?

My sister locked me out of my room.
I was really hungry.
My favorite TV show was on.
There was a huge knot in my hair.
My older brother threw a snowball at me and started a snowball fight.
I had to practice my foul shot.
My babysitting job started an hour early.
My favorite song was on the radio.
My friend IMed me.
It was too nice of a day to be inside.
I had to write my history report.
I had a bad stomach ache.
My parents expect too much of me.

Why I Didn’t Study for the Test

I was busy
I lost the notes
My brother shredded the Textbook
My Dad told me not to
I went to a funeral
I gave up studying for Lent
I left my notes at school
I had too much homework
I had to watch TV
I went out for dinner
Didn’t you hear about the Yankees Game
I had to go to bed
I lost the Textbook
What test?

Yet I’m sorry to hear, he writes about fighting,

Sneaking By A Game Cube On a Weekday

Whose games these are I think I know.
He’s gone to go eat dinner’ though;
He will not see me playing here
To watch me beat his evil foe.

My big brother might find it queer
To notice that he has more gear.
Unusual Characters such as Jess
And a pet animal; a deer.

He’ll give the game controls a press
To ask if there’s a glitch or lepse.
The only other sound’s the beep
Of twenty buttons, more or less.

The games are lovely, fun (and cheap),
But I have paperwork in a heap,
And pages of homework before I sleep.
And pages of homework before I sleep.

The Dresser Of the Unknown

Whose dresser’s this I think I know
Her clothes are in my room though
She will not see me looking through here
To look at clothes high and low.

The drawers must think it queer
Trying to clothes without fear
Between the hallway and my windows lake
The clothes must last throughout the year.

The drawers start to close and shake
To ask if there is some mistake
Everywhere the clothes start to leap
But still they say that it was fake.

The dresser’s lonely clothes are deep
But I have a promise to keep
And hours waiting until I sleep
And hours waiting until I sleep.

What is the opposite of down?
A smile that is turned around
The water going up not down
A little kid that won’t make a sound.

What is the opposite of being sad?
A happy face that makes you look glad
Not a face of fright and mad.
Just the thought of being glad.

What is the opposite of small?
A big, huge shopping mall

My Brother Matt

Dear Matt
You always annoy me
Whenever I go to sit down you take my spot
We can’t go through one car ride without fighting
And always I can’t go through a day without saying OW! or CUT IT OUT!
Maybe someday you will learn that being mean isn’t nice
Matt I will always love you like a sister loves a brother j
ust try to work on your manners!
But…meanwhile we will always have a great time together!

Persona Poem

Dear Aaron,

It was my time to leave.
I really didn't want to!
I wanted to say good-bye.
I kind of knew it was my time.
I don't want you to cry.
I should cry.
It was my time to leave.
Please don't fear.
I am always with you.
I want to come home.
Can you survive without me?
I don't want you to cry.
I knew it was my time!

Sincerely,
Papa

Persona Poem

Dear Aaron,

I hate when you hit me against my head!
It hurts when you sharpen me.
It feels nice when you pick me up.
I don't like when you shove me in your pocket!
I hate when you throw me down!
NEVER BIT ME!
I like when you press on my eraser.
I don't want to lose my eraser.
My tip has to be pointy!
I want you to respect me and all other pencils!
I will always brake if you don't respect me!
I always want lead!
Will you talk with me?
I don't want to be lonely!
Sincerely,
Pencil

Personification

Vegetables

The cabbage laughs as the cauliflower dances
The carrot hears the cauliflower sing.
The beets dream of beautiful gardens.
And the beans remember of when they were just seeds.
The peppers sizzle and grimace at the peas.
The seeds listen to the potatoes talk.
The scared broccoli wonders if it will ever be squashed.
And the squash rumbles around and around.
But in the end, they all watch the rain drop.

The Sky tells the Wind to Blow

The Sky tells the Wind to Blow

The sky tells the wind to blow

The wind forces objects in its way to fall

The ground tells the sky to shine down

Introduction

Hello. We are from Fairfield Woods Middle School in Fairfield CT. Fairfield Woods Middle School is home of the Wildcats. We are in the 6th grade and love to write poetry. We have 24 students in the class- 13 girls and 11 boys. Our top 3 favorite authors are: Judy Blume, J.K. Rowling, and Louis Sachar. We like comedy, fiction, and drama. Our teacher has taught us how write many poems including: Acrostic, Synonym, Antonym, Clerihew, List, History, Frozen, Address, Persona, and Concrete. Our favorite two are Concrete and Clerihew. Concrete poems take the shape of the object you are writing about. For example, if you are writing about an ice cream cone, you write it in the shape of an ice cream cone. In the Clerihew poem, you write funny things about celebrities. There are many books that we have read that are about poetry. One of our favorite poetry books is Hailstones and Halibut Bones. In our school a lot goes on. We have a play coming up and it should be good. We are doing the production The Wizard of Oz.
