Why War?

“WHY WAR”

War, what does it do?
What is it for?
Why do we do it?
Because we want to?
Because we have to?
No!
It all has a reason
We do it to protect our selves
We do it do protect our land
We don’t do it to take land
We don’t do it to kill
Most of us have a hard time killing
Most of us hesitate to kill
But we have to, to protect

Hunting

Hunting
Hunting is great for a hobby,
When after your done you can go hang out at the hotel lobby.
You can gets lots of food and have lots of fun;
While being nice and warm under that toasty sun.
You find your prey in its nest for the first kill of the season, which is always best, because after that night you no did good, because you hunted like Elmer Fuud.

As Far As the Eye Can See

As Far As the Eye Can See

As far as the eye can see,
How far a river flows,
Our friendship will never leave,
Though we may cry for each other,
I thought I could tell you,
Tell you that as far as the eye can see,
How far a river flows with its rapids,
We shall always have our friendship,
Though I shed tears at night,
For the ones I love,
You and I will be,
The best friends forever.

A Day on the Lake

A Day on the Lake
By Jacque

Out on the lake in the boat,
“Can’t wait to swim,” I quote.
The moment the boat is turned off,
I’m in the water, even if it’s rough.
Finally under the surface,
Saved from the u.v. furnace.
My whole family I must splash,
Then back underwater with a flash.
After just frolicking for a while,
I decide I will wakeboard a mile.
I get the board and my gloves,
The sport and I are like two turtledoves.
All set, ready to go,
Thumbs up to the driver; not too slow!
Now on top of the water,
I feel good; earlier I was hotter.
I look down and all I see
Is the board, bindings, and water under me.
Lean hard to the left,
Make this movement deft;
Over the small wake I fly,
Now I’m almost dry.
I lean down to wet my hands,
Motion to the driver my commands.
Bust the 180 so my front foot’s my right,
Now here comes my next quick flight.
Across both of the wakes,
Weaving around the water like a snake.
Again and again I do this,
My mind in a great abyss;
No worries or concerns,
Hopefully not even sunburn.
Only happiness and joy
Exist in this human koi.

Say Hello to Your Future

Say Hello To Your Future!

As I sat there by the tire, which was lit by a previous fire.
I look at some who are listing to an I-pod hum.
I remember 3 years before, that horrible spacecraft came from Prueliphor.
That horrible alien city came to make earth happy and busy.
The came with technology they came with gold, far too much for any earthling to hold,
New scientists decreased, there they flew, then suddenly the money was gone, where did it go?
No one knew.
As imports came in, the government tried to manage, but it far too increased computer rammage.
As thing-a-ma-jigs no one could comprehend blared, people took no notice, no one cared.
Finally they left, earth was not paying, for all the machinery that aliens were creating.
No one knew how to turn on: robots, HuiJkrel’s, of digital songs.
Just for a moment the earth stood still, in everyone’s spine there was a cold chill.
Now it is three years later, no ones big surprise, crime went up, on a tremendous rise.
No one had jobs, we earthlings, just nasty slobs.
We had money in handy.
Now the earth is broke, stock markets are about to croak.
But suddenly in the sky, something was flashing, hope was nigh…
But no one learned, it would be earths eternal bun, having everything you wanted was just unheard.

It was Supposed to be a Fairy Tale

It Was Supposed To Be a Fairy Tale
by Jaclyn

How can you not feel the same?
We have been together for so long.
I drove myself crazy, thinking of you!

This isn’t supposed to happen!
It was supposed to last forever,
And be just like a fairy tale.

How did it end?
We had the greatest love,
No one could have met.

I don’t want you to go.
You’re my cane in life,
You hold me up!

Let’s talk this over
Calmly, Quietly,
I love you!

The Walrus

The Walrus
By Collin

Walruses Are fat
And they have tusks
If you don’t believe me
I’m telling the truth
Walruses don’t wear pants
That’s Disgusting
They live in Australia
But I just lied
They live in Alaska
And other cold places
Eskimos use em for soap
And that’s disgusting

Summer's Funner

Summer’s Funner

When it’s summer
It’s always funner
When me and my sisters play
We ride our bikes
And fly our kites
Until the end of the day

When it’s summer
It’s always funner
We stay up late
We laugh and we giggle
We eat till we jiggle
And we sleep until the end of midday.

Death's Appearance

Death’s Appearance
By Nelson AM Student #6

Death sits in his rotting robe,
As he stares,
Down at you with those cold empty eyes,
As he reaches at you,
And grabs for your soul,
You are horror stricken,
His lip-less grin seems to intimidate you,
But then he comfortably says,
Don’t be afraid,
Your life has come to an end,
No need to worry,
Because a pleasant life of bliss lies ahead,
Now you will lie peacefully in bed,
And the rest remains untold.

Forests

Forests
Green and full of life
Brown and full of foliage
Broken Twigs on the ground
Snowy slope all around
People ride then they walk
All sorts of creatures lurk around
Cold, refreshing rivers to be found
Slow trails, high trails
Wide and long
Every sort of creature
On the Earth and sky
Will enjoy Gods wonderful forests

What is Summer?

What Is Summer?
By Josh

Summer is not nice weather but the good times that go along with it.

Summer is staying up all night and sleeping in
Because you don’t have to go to school in the morning

Summer is going camping with your family
And sitting around the campfire joking about the good old days

Summer is a day out on the lake
Where you just sit back and relax with the wind in your face
While you soak up not only the sun but future memories too

So you ask me what summer is
and I tell you
that summer isn’t staying up late, or eating marshmallows, or even nice weather
but the good times that go along with these things

Hack

Hack
by Michael

Circle around
Everyone talking
While doing crazy things
Like stalling on their head
Over the ksh ksh of the hack
It goes around to everyone
Comes to you will you hit it back
Or get your own, let the team down
And be a lone stander and not get better
You hear them shout 1 hack, 2 hack
But you can’t get a hack
So choose to be a team member
Or a lone stander

A Walk in the Alley of Ignorance

A walk in the Alley of Ignorance
By Riley

Once upon a time on a hot summer day,
I was walking through an alley under the sun’s rays.
I saw a black man lying in the mud,
A wound on his chest and a pool of blood.
I approached him just in time to hear him say,
“Oh that darn racism of today.”
I wondered for a second who could do this to this man.
Well, none other than the Klu Klux Klan.
It brought sorrow to my soul, the racism on this earth.
We’re losing moral values, some forget what they’re worth.
Such a sad story racism brings to us,
Now it’s our time to stop all the fuss.

The Light Within

The Light Within
By Margot

An immense, daunting mountain of pain
and suffering
looming in the distance
Trying to avoid it,
preparing my soul for the torture.
The Fire within me tells me
to straighten up; set my mind.
When I start out,
I go in circles,
I don’t know which way to turn.
Then the light,
the light shows me the way,
the way to the hope,
the way to the end of that horrible, dark tunnel.
I find my path and start to follow it.
It is treacherous; I stumble,
but, the light guides me
and sets me back on my feet.
The light pushes me on,
and it gets easier.
Glory is so close!
My pain and agony is almost over.
Just a little more.
Look! There it is!
I’m done!
It’s over!
I’m alive!
A few scratches,
but I’ll be fine.
See what I’ve done.
That wasn’t so bad.
Victory!
I’m glad
that little light showed me the way.

I Guess I Was Wrong

I guess I was wrong
I thought you were my night in shiny armor
Instead you turned out to be
Another guy my parents warned me about!
You said I love you
And I believed it!
I even trusted you but yet
You still seem to see other people
And you ended up breaking my heart
And took away my favorite memories
Sometimes you make me want to cry!

War

WAR
by Michael

Why do people go to war?
Who knows, who cares?
That’s what a lot of people say.
Well I do know one thing, the
Families of the people fighting
For our country care. When their
Son or husband die fighting for
A cause that is so small and has
No point. They just lost a loved
One, for almost nothing. When
People go to war it’s not like a
Stroll through the park. They are
Getting shot at and bombed. Hundreds
Of people die but no one seems to
Care. “Oh did you see the dead guy
On the news this morning.” “Yeah
That guy was pretty stupid to go
And get himself killed.” Yeah well
That guy died so that you wouldn’t
Have to. That guy put his butt on the
Line so that you could live. But you
Don’t care all you care about is
Cracking jokes. “Hey I wonder if there’s
Anything left of him after that
Bomb hit him.” There probably wasn’t
Anything left, but hey lets crack jokes
About a dead guy that was fighting for
Our country. But hey he can’t hear us,
So lets insult him while were at it.

Dead Chicken

Dead chicken
By James

You were once so fat with life
But now you are a completely mummified Cornish game hen.
You were once so pretty and full of organs, but now you are ugly and full of Safeway brand salt
You were bought from Safeway by a man named Deason.
Guarded by the minions of the union also know as the Butchers.
Yet even though in life you had the IQ less than that of a three year old, in death you now know something no one on this earth knows.
You know what lies beyond.

About Our Class

We are the McKinleyville Middle School Comets! If one is looking to find us, one would have to travel up to the northern tip of California. We are nestled between the beautiful Pacific Ocean and the majestic redwoods, hidden away in our own little fogbank. Our school has a little over 400 students. The Nelson Core class is a class that learns about Social Studies and Language Arts for three periods a day! Right now, we are in the midst of our Civil War simulation! We are also doing our own Poetry Slam in the class, complete with judges and club atmosphere.

Remember, no matter where you go...
...there you are!
Mr. N!
