Loud ,cars everywhere
teeen people fighting and screaming at eachother,

Alot of persons coming in and out of their house and stores

Love (adapted from a published poem)
By: Leticia

Love is the past the future
and you. Love is like a dream
come true for love is
knowing I have you. Love is
passion. You never could
compare love with something
else.

My Neighborhood
By: Farah

In my neighborhood we have violence,
gangs, crackheads, drug dealers and drive-bys
but my neighborhood wasn't always bad it was
kind of peace there were still drug dealers and all that
it was still bad but not like it is now
that's why me and my familt might move.

Hi everyone! We are getting lots of great comments! A few people have mentioned that they would like to see rhyming words. For the "My Neighborhood" poem, I told my students NOT to rhyme because rhyming is very difficult to do well. Remember, most poems do not rhyme. I like to start with this type of poetry because sometimes people are scared to write poetry. This way, it looks just like a paragraph, with shorter sentences and some rhythm and everyone can write one! We will be posting more poems, including some rhyming ones! Keep the great comments coming!

My Neighborhood
By: Rene

My neighborhood is quiet half the time because there’s parties with loud music, Charger fans cheering and the sound of cats, dogs and roosters roaring across every street in my neighborhood.

My neighbor hood can be scary at times because there are street races that go on for an entire night, a police car chasing a guy for stealing a car, crashes into a house and mysteriously disappeared and a drive by that was almost right in front of my house.

But most of the time my neighborhood is loud with Parties, Charger fans cheering and the sound of animals around every corner

***By EriKa***
My neiborhood is ghetto theres fights like everyday
people are used to seeing them
its always loud and people are always yelling
kids are always playing outside haveing fun and just hanging
out.policemen are always driving by
and cathing bad people
you will see tagging from hot gangsters
but besides all the bad and good
things i like my neiborhood cause its tight.

My neighborhood is full of fights
but when it comes to summer they fly kites
everyday i see the same pepole drinking beer
in there eyes i see fear
everyday i see gangters smoking weed
and chillin with the homies
and not caring what they do
and be tagging up all these schools
so when it comes to my neighborhood dont mess with them
or else you wil get your butt kicked by them!!!

Neighborhood (in Lebanon)
By: Mohamad

My neighborhood police are afraid from my
neighborhood. One day a fight in my neighborhood,
people call the police no answer, no answer,
leave a message. Fight in my neighborhood.
This was about my neighborhood in Lebanon.
My neighborhood in America people are
afraid from police. Police always pick up
the phone. My neighborhood.

My neighborhood
By: Irving

My neighborhood cars passing on the street with
dogs barking to each other. Kids screaming when
they are playing. On the night cops passing
on the streets. People stealing cars and shooting.
but the next day is the same.

My Neighborhood
by: Bryan

My neighborhood is really
quiet on the weekends
it's like the quietness
never ends, on weekdays
it is noisy filled with
cars. I see people woeking
on their lawnmowers and
people walking their dogs
Sometimes they walk in the
fog. Thats my neighborhood
my neighborhood.

My neighborhood
By: Gustavo

My neighborhood is quiet,
You feel lonely, like you're
The only one living there,
But it is beautiful there's
Flowers and big trees that's
Why I like my neighborhood.

My Neighborhood

My neighborhood is peaceful. But now
My neighborhood is always noisy and loud
Grown man yelling out their doors
Bad people cursing and smoking
Weed and drinking

Police always coming to get him
But then he comes back and do
Something and do the same thing
Again, again, and again

But then swat team comes and get him now it's peaceful.

The Quiet Neighborhood
By: Chris R.

My neighborhood is quiet.
No one outside playing or partying.
Only dogs barking at each
other.
Most people come out at
noon. We see loose dogs walking
in the street.
My neighbors are quiet also.
Every body who lives there is
in their house all bored. I am too.
At night you can only hear
cars in the freeway. Some racing
cars passing by our street.
My neighborhood is quiet.

The Neighborhood
By: Maurice
In my neighborhood it is always loud and helicopters romin around. People running from cop cars because they committed a crime. There's always someone getting jacked or beat up just because they said the wrong thing or wore a certain color. It doesn't bother me because I know every one and I use to it I guess it's life.

The Neighborhood Crack head
By: Dorian

The Neighborhood crack head is about 5feet 2 inches without any legs, He smokes all day: and waits for people to come buy so he could take their belongings, He comes everyday wearing the same beat up shoes that he been having for at least 7 years, His head is the size of a tweedy bird. Then one day at about 11:30 p.m. a car pulls up to him. People steps out of the cars and he puts on good clothes and start selling drugs. Then the next day comes there goes the neighborhood crack head

My Neighborhood Poems

We started writing poetry today! We started by reading a poem written by a teen called, "Neighborhood Watch". The point of this lesson was to show my students that you don't have to rhyme and it doesn't even have to look like a typical poem to be poetry! Then, they wrote their own neighborhood poems.

About Our School

Lewis Middle School is a large urban middle school located in San Diego, Ca. We have a very diverse campus with students from many different nationalities including Hispanic, Somalian, Middle Eastern, Asian, and Caucasian. My English Support class will be my only class participating in the Poetry Slam. 22 students make up this class, with about half of them English Language Learners. These students have my class first period, and then come back for 8th grade English during different periods. We have had a hectic year, but I am hoping to get some poems up in the next week!
I have also decided that my After School Reading Class will also be adding poems. My after school group is about 6 7th graders, and three 8th graders. We meet once a week, so they won't be commenting as much as my English Support class.
